You Don’t

You don’t flinch.

You don’t show your fear.

You don’t breathe through your nose, so you can’t smell their breath.

You don’t wipe away their spit, as they are screaming in your face.

You don’t argue back.

You don’t respond to their vitriol.

You don’t accept the insults spewing from their mouth.

You don’t forget they are terrified.

You don’t forget, like an injured animal, they lash out in fear.

You don’t forget they need you to be strong.

You don’t forget that if you break, their world will shatter.

You don’t dismiss their trauma.

You don’t feed into their toxic shame.

You don’t reinforce their feeling of utter uselessness.

You don’t hold onto their insults.

You don’t wallow in their verbal abuse.

You don’t accept it though, as part of your life.

You don’t give up trying to get help.

You don’t stop ringing the professionals and leaving messages.

You don’t give up emailing again and again and again.

You don’t give up on your children.

You don’t give up on you.

You Don't
